Your Choice

There are so many examples in the Word of God of choices that people were given and how these choices worked out for them. It is no different in our everyday life as well. Adam and Eve in the book of Genesis were faced with the choice to obey God’s instruction or believe that they had a better idea. Isn’t it strange that the God of creation had given them free access to everything in Paradise with just two exceptions; however, they chose to focus on what they wanted rather than what they were blessed with. Just like us when the realization of their wrong choice hit them, they had another choice to make. Their decision was to hide from the one that had created them to be in “His image“ rather than being their own image-maker. Adam and Eve “hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees in the garden.” (Genesis 3:8b) Even though God asked them where they were, He knew already, but was calling them back to Himself. They tried a cover-up with leaves, throwing each other under the bus, blaming the serpent, and even God for making such a wife and hid from His presence.

There are 4 chapters in the Bible that do not mention the presence of our adversary the devil. The devil made his debut on planet earth in chapter three of Genesis after the creation of the world and also is absent in the last two chapters in Revelations speaking of the creation of the new heavens and earth and his eternal punishment away from God and His children. In between the rest of the pages of the Bible we have many decisions with the presence of God or evil, but you have the deciding vote. Even if the wrong decision is made initially, you can choose to run to God in repentance and receive His presence and protection rather than run from Him. Just as God removed the shoddy covering of leaves and gave Adam and Eve His covering of sacrifice and promise of redemption—He will do that for you. What a wonderful God of covering grace and second chances. There are many decisions yet to make and your choices reveal whom you partner with. It is your choice.
