Power of Our Words

But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. Acts1:8 KJV

Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they

that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. Proverbs 18:21KJV

It was only a year after we were married we turned our lives over to the Lord and were able to take in some serious Biblical truths we had never known before. One Sunday afternoon, things weren't going well. I don't really remember the details of it all, but we were disagreeing on something that was very important to me. I've never been one to use the word "hell" but that day, I told him he could go there! With that, he left to do whatever it was he was doing.

I soon noticed he started changing. He quit going to church, gospel singings (there were always singings somewhere). I was getting concerned for his soul. One day as I was driving to a Bible Study, I was praying for my husband. "If he doesn't change, Lord, he's going to hell!" I heard a voice say "That's where you told him to go." What a shock. We had received teachings on the power of our words. I thought I had understood what the teachers were saying, I surely did that day. I "called back" that curse I had placed on him. I asked God to forgive me and to give Garry a new anointing. I could tell a difference in him by the time I got home that afternoon.

We've had our differences over the past 40+ years, but I've never made that mistake with him or anyone else again.

Jesus promised He would send up power to do even greater things than He did. When we receive the Holy Spirit, we receive that very power. Where we sometimes miss it, is when we mistakenly think the power has a switch, like a food processor – regular speed, then High Speed, with more power. NO! When we receive His Power, our lives should be kicked into that higher power – in all things. We’ve been missing out on a powerful, blessed life. Never too late to start over.
