Breathe

There is a song out that is called, “Breath.” In this song there are lines that state; This is my daily bread, This is my daily bread, Your very word spoken to me. I could not ask for a word from God, like I need one now, dealing with my grandchildren. They cross the line and Papa has to discipline them. The scripture in Hebrews 12 gives us true insight for disciplining.

Hebrews 12:10 For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but He for our profit, that we might be partakers of His holiness.

Looking at this verse, most discipline comes from poor management at home and not looking to what's going to be the best discipline for the child. Example: A father watching T.V. for his pleasure, and the child is wanting some attention. The Dad gets upset at the child bothering him and ends up spanking or saying, “Go to your room for the rest of the day!” We, as Bible believing people, desire to follow what the good book says about discipline.

Let's look at the next verse in Hebrews 12:11, Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous but grievous: nevertheless, afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.

Two aspects of discipline that I hope you gleaned:

1. How is my child going to profit from discipline?

2. Is my discipline yielding the peaceable fruit of

righteousness?
