A Silly Idea (Part 2)

August 13, 2017

Caroline writes that she finally gave up computer solitaire; she just replaced it with computer "scrabble". I still play solitaire but I often think it improves my relationship with God. It sure brings forth many questions. For example, why can I sit here for two hours, on a hard chair, and find it difficult to sit in church for two hours on a soft pew? Why do I get excited when I win a game but I can't get a shout out of my mouth in church? If you allow something or someone to come before Christ then you are losing control.

I want to be "addicted" to Christ! I want to be like the woman who searched until she found the lost coin; like the woman who pressed through the crowd for the hem of His garment; to climb the tree to get a glimpse of Him, or the woman who pleaded for the "crumbs" from the table. I want to be like the prodigal who knew where his father lived and he raced home. Church buildings have people who have issues just like me. We have that in common but some of us are more aware than others. Society makes us believe that we find true happiness in a job, a human relationship, money, power, or position. But to have contentment, security, peace, hope that comes from God.

This world I am living in today is trouble and there will come a time when God says Enough! He will judge it just as He did Israel and Judah. If we don't wake up, we might not have an angel like Lot did to drag him out of Sodom! He had an uncle who interceded for him. Do you have people praying for you? Will you be like Lot's wife who just had to look back?

Caroline's book is hard for me to read. I find myself within the pages because I see "me" -a long time ago before Christ. I still pick it up, read a few pages, see myself and put it back down. She lost her battles at age 42 but I discovered a Book that is eternal! I see myself as a redeemed person, a new creature and old things have passed away. I know now that happiness isn't a "game" but a reality in Christ Jesus.

"For as in those days which were before the flood they were eating and drinking, they were marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and they did not understand until the flood came and took them all away, so shall the coming of the Son of Man be." Matthew 24:38-39
