Grow Up

August 29, 2017

But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, both now and the day of eternity. Amen. 2 Peter 3:18

We are starting a new 13-week series with the children called “Grow Up in Christ”. As I was studying these Bible lessons and seeking guidance on how to present this information to the children, I was quickened in my Spirit that as an adult I need to be reminded and encouraged to “grow up” also. The table of contents in this lesson book lists 12 area of study in the growing process. Grow in faith, obedience, attitude, worship, discipleship, prayer, goodness, love for Christ, devotion to the church, grace, confidence and hope.

I began to realize that maybe God wanted me to write about these things for the adults also. There is so much information in these lessons that I can’t possible summarize it in one devotion. During the next few months I hope to spend some time on a few of these for us to digest as well.

Growing up in Christ means doing what Jesus calls us to do. My goal for the children is for them to understand that God doesn’t want them to wait until they are adults to serve God. God has something important for them to do now. I remember as a child and even a teenager wondering what God had planned for my life never realizing that I might have been missing out on what He wanted me to do right then. Maybe you did the same thing too???

Ironically, as adults we often miss what God has planned for us because we are busy worrying about “life”. We have many responsibilities, a job, sometimes children to care for and a lot of things on our plate. Then, when we are older, we simply say, “we’re too old”. It makes me wonder if we have spent our whole lives spinning our wheels and never taking time to “grow”. Let’s take time together and search God’s Word. I want to know and be doing what He has called me to do. If you haven’t already, accept His assignment today.

To this end also we pray for you always, that our God will count you worthy of your calling, and fulfill every desire for goodness and the work of faith with power.
2 Thessalonians 1:11
