Grow in Faith

Who is the one who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? 1 John 5:5

The first lesson in the “Growing Up in Christ” series is growing in faith. Faith is the cornerstone of our Christian lives. And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him, Hebrews 11:6. Faith is required before we can begin this Christian walk. We must first believe that God is God; Jesus is His Son, died on the cross for our sins and rose again. If we confess our sins, He is faithful to forgive us. He is preparing a place for us and is coming back for us someday. It is by faith that we believe this and by faith we are saved.

Growing in faith is another matter. It requires work. We must stop and see what He is doing in our lives. If we don’t actively look for His hand in our lives, we will not fully trust that Jesus has the power to change things. We have to spend time with our Savior to fully trust that He can improve our circumstances.

When we look to His Word we find that when Jesus turned water into wine, His followers believed in Him. When Jesus healed the official’s son, all the people in the house believed in Jesus. What is happening in your house? We can build our faith by reading about the miracles Jesus performed in the Bible. But it is also important that we build our faith by seeing Jesus work in our own lives. What is Jesus doing in your life? What about the lives of the people around you? If Jesus has the power to raise the dead, what does He have the power to do in your life?

It may be big or it may be small but Jesus is working in your life. Take time today to see the evidence of Him in your life. Once you see it, thank Him for it. Seeing His hand in your life will build your faith and encourage you today. Spend time with the Savior and trust that He will improve your circumstances because of His love for you.

I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. Galatians 2:20
