God's Creation

September 1, 2017

One spring morning four canaries clung to the tall dry grass by the side of a Montana road. As I walked closer to them, they flew ahead of me and landed in the safe brush. Their yellow feathers made lovely bright spots in the landscape. They flew again and this time landed on the gravel road. The canaries continued to fly in short spurts to stay ahead of me. This yellow aerial performance continued for a couple of blocks.

Taking walks to observe God’s Creation is a pleasant pastime for me. As I walk in the countryside, rabbits scurry across the road to hide. Cows in the pasture stop and turn their heads to watch as I pass by. The melodic sound of the birds thrills my heart. Horses advance to the fence as I holdout tasty grass for them to eat. Fluffy clouds float over the distant mountains. The red Indian paintbrush and yellow sunflowers provide a contrast of color between the dull green sage and dry grass.

Graceful ducks paddle around in the river as I walk across the bridge. A fish jumps to the surface to grab a dragonfly. The fast-moving water bubbles over the rocks and provides a peaceful sound. Sunshine flints off the sprinkling water. Barn swallows fly up and around the bridge from their nests underneath.

The sights and sounds of God’s Creation are endless. It is a blessing to enjoy them. Give thanks to the Lord, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done. Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts. Psalm 105:1-2 (NIV)
