A Good Name
A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold. Proverbs 22:1
As a child growing up, I heard Proverbs 22:1 many times so that it would impact me in the choices I had before me. Even though I was a preacher’s kid, I was never reminded of that by my parent because they thought it was far more important who I belonged to than what title I held. My parent’s faithfulness gave me a good name. I soon learned throughout our fellowship in the state of Kansas when it was discovered I was the child of Gail and Maxine Howard, doors opened and privileges unearned were mine. Why? My parents had a good name. Often, my dad would tell me, “Remember you are mine and you are a Howard.”
You may or may not have been so blessed to been given a good family name. However, when you accepted Christ as your Savior, not only was there a “new name written down in glory,” but your Heavenly Father has the “name above all names”. Jesus, the most beautiful and precious of all names. You are a child of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. It is all about who you belong to. Because of that name, everything of eternal purpose is open to you even though it is unearned. Always remember whose child you are and live in such a way that other would come to know your Father because you have reflected Him so well.
