We Will Understand it Better By and By

February 8, 2018

Many remember the song from the hymnal, We Will

Understand It Better By and By:

We are tossed and driven on the restless sea of time; somber

skies and howling tempests oft succeed a bright sunshine; in

that land of perfect day, when the mists are rolled away, we will

understand it better by and by.

Refrain:

By and by, when the morning comes, when the saints of God are

gathered home, we'll tell the story how we've overcome, for we'll

understand it better by and by.

Then I read the second verse:

2. We are often destitute of the things that life demands, want of

food and want of shelter, thirsty hills and barren lands; we are

trusting in the Lord, and according to God's word, we will

understand it better by and by.

Hits home, doesn't it?

Then I read the third verse:

3. Trials dark on every hand, and we cannot understand all the

ways of God would lead us to that blessed promised land; but he

guides us with his eye, and we'll follow till we die, for we'll

understand it better by and by.

Then I read the last verse:

4. Temptations, hidden snares often take us unawares, and our

hearts are made to bleed for a thoughtless word or deed; and

we wonder why the test when we try to do our best, but we'll

understand it better by and by.

At the time the Holy Spirit brought this message to me, I was going through my own personal struggle. I was questioning why! Why some things were happening and at the same time why some things weren’t happening. After all, I knew what the Word said. I believed God’s word and trusted it. Yet, at the present time, and times in the past, I wasn’t seeing answers to my prayers. Then, on top of my own questions, every time I talk to my mother, she asks me the same questions. Each time I have to tell her I don’t know but I understand, what she’s saying, not what is happening.

So, again, I sent up a question – Why!!?? And once again, I got the answer, “Trust me, my child.”

The only conclusion I could come to was this: Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Proverbs 3:5-6.

Regardless of how bad things look, seem or get, we really have no alternative but to trust in our Lord. Someday we will understand it all better by and by.
