Idols

We see in Daniel chapter 3 where King Nebuchadnezzar made a golden image for all to worship, praise and bow before. Everyone in all the land would come and see this golden image and when they heard the music they were to bow down and worship this image. We all know what happens in the rest of the story and for those of you who do not I encourage you to go read it now.

I would like to focus on this first half of the story. We read it and as Christians we are so excited to see a group of believers who stand up to the King and don’t bow down to his idol. Although we may not have nine or ten foot golden idols set up in our schools or our towns or states. We have set up some little idols ourselves in its place. Say for example the TV, ballgames or the internet and all of its social media. Our phones and texting and talking non-stop. However small it may seem to you anything that takes up more time....it takes the place of God and it becomes an idol.

Exodus 20:3 “Thou shalt have no other Gods before me”

God makes it crystal clear that he is a jealous God and He is to be our one and only. He wants us to put him first not last. I am not saying that all of these things I listed such as TV or phones or ballgames start out as idols but we make them such when we raise them to the level where God should be.

Today I urge you to analyze your life. Look back and see if there are some things that are taking up too much time and are distractions. Put God back into first priority each and every day of your life. If he is your God then It needs to show. He wants you to put your “money where your mouth is” so to speak.

Have a blessed day and put God first!
