The Down Comforter

March 8, 2018

I always disliked winter. One of the main reasons was the fact that winter bedding was always so heavy. Quilts and blankets just seemed like a lot of weight on a body. I’ll never forget my first experience with a down comforter.

Often, when I would make a trip to Naperville to visit my little sister, my mother-in-law would ride with me to Manteno to visit her sister. I would drop Geri off and then head on up to my sister’s. Once, for some reason, I was spending the night in Manteno. Garry’s cousin Marsha invited us to her house for dinner and invited me to spend the night at her house. She had a beautiful home. Every room was like a picture in a magazine. She insisted I take her room and she took the small bed in a spare room. Her bedroom also was so pretty. I got into bed and the cover was so light. It was like not having anything over you yet so warm. I loved it. I stayed over at “Aunt” Marsha’s a couple more times and always looked forward to that down comforter. (Garry always called her Aunt even though she was a cousin.) First chance I got, I got us a down comforter. We still use it even though it has been with us many years. It stays on our bed year round. It amazes me how it keeps us comfortable regardless of the temperature.

I hope every woman and girl, if she hasn’t yet, will have an opportunity to spend a night, or two, in a beautiful room with a down comforter. Now, I know there are many who are thinking how silly, after all, it’s an everyday thing for them. That’s good. Women who can spend every day in a beautiful home and crawl under a down comforter every night and feel like a princess of some sort, should consider themselves very blessed. But the fact is, most girls, women, will never know what I’m talking about. And that is a sad thing.

We can rest assured, though, our loving heavenly Father did provide for us a comforter who will be with us at all times, if we will let Him. John 14:16 –17 – “And I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you forever: Even the Spirit of Truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth Him not, neither knoweth Him: but ye know Him; for He dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.”
