Feathers

March 11, 2018

“Look at the coloring in this feather,” I told Larry, my husband.

Occasionally I find a bird feather to examine and touch. I enjoy trying to figure out which bird the feather belonged to. The variety and delicacy of feathers are as marvelous to look at as the many colorful birds.

I have a solid black shiny feather that is probably from a blackbird. By the river, I found a large white feather. I’m guessing this feather came from a goose. The tail feathers of a pheasant are long and slim with a repeating color pattern of shades of dark brown to light tan.

Feathers are on clothing and with flowers as table decorations. People find a variety of ways to delight in the intricacy of these creations. As a child, I enjoyed rubbing feathers against my cheek. In the past, feather quills were used as ink pens. Some artists paint pictures on feathers for a unique canvas.

Feathers are just one of many fantastic things God has provided for us. Majestic mountains, the sound of the wind moaning through the trees, a variety of animals, color variation of flowers, soothing sound of water running, lovely bird songs, beautiful sunrises and sunsets are made for our pleasure.

We are blessed with God’s creation.

“Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, O LORD, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all.” 1 Chronicles 29:11 (NIV)
