Work Ethic

Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men. Colossians 3:23

As a coach, a lot of what we look at in an athlete is their work ethic, it shows a lot about a person, on the field of play and in the classroom. This got me thinking, what does our work ethic as a Christian show our coach (God)?

Student athletes in High School have to perform at a very high level on their field of play, as well as maintain certain standards in the classroom with their studies. Our life as a Christian is not much different. We should make sure we are prepared to perform when we go out into the mission field (Life) and we should also be prepared for the daily tests that we will have by studying the Word on our personal time.

The top athletes spend hours outside of an organized practice perfecting their skills. How much time do we spend outside of an organized church service or Bible study learning the Word? So, what does our Christian work ethic show about us? Are we someone who spends our days spreading the Gospel to people we come in contact with each day, or do we only think or talk about God when it's easy and the opportunity shows up for us? Do we study the Bible on our personal time (on a daily basis), or are we content with showing up to organized settings and listening to what someone else has studied?

Take this as a challenge to examine your own life and make sure your work ethic is sending the right message to your coach (God), your teammates (People in our lives) and the opponent (The Devil). God bless and have a great day!
