Tremble

Were You There When They Crucified My Lord? (Spiritual by African-American Slaves in the 19th Century)

Were you there when they crucified my Lord? Were you there when they crucified my Lord? Oh! Sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble, were you there when they crucified my Lord?

Were you there when they nailed Him to the tree? Were you there when they nailed Him to the tree? Oh! Sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble, were you there when they crucified my Lord?

Were you there when they pierced him in the side?

Were you there when the sun refused to shine?

Were you there when they laid Him in the tomb?

Oh! Sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble, were you there when they crucified my Lord?

What is your reaction when you think about the cross? Do you tremble when you think about what Christ did for you? That day was filled with emotion. Not just from His followers but the very earth reacted. Darkness fell over all the land from noon until about 3pm. Normally the brightest part of the day. The earth quaked too!

Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? That is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? Matthew 27:46

Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent; and the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose. Matthew 27:50-52

Oh! Sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble, were you there when they crucified my Lord?
