Stay Sharp

As a coach on the field, I am always doing my best to make sure that our athletes stay sharp in their craft. For me it is Soccer, but everyone has something that we do for a living, and it is our human nature to make sure we stay on top of our game so that we may get that promotion at work, or opportunities to advance ourselves. We practice and we prepare.

On the soccer field a lot of times, I tell my players to work smarter and not harder (sometimes we do need to work harder too!). But the point is that the wisdom we use, the easier our “work” becomes, regardless of what it is. I believe the same is true not only in our worldly lives, but also in our spiritual lives.

The Bible tells us in Ecclesiastes 10:10 “Using a dull ax requires great strength, so sharpen the blade. That's the value of wisdom; it helps you succeed” (NLT).

We need to sharpen our spiritual blade, so that we may succeed with the wisdom given to us through the Holy Spirit. Make a conscious effort in our devotions and Bible studies to focus in on areas of our lives to helps us sharpen our spiritual blade, not always to just get a “feel good” boost. Learn and apply the hard lessons as well, so when the devil or the world get after us to tear us down or try and defeat us, we can be prepared to work smarter and not harder.

Have a Blessed Day!
