With Your Eyes Wide Shut
How far can you see with your eyes wide shut?
I recently attended the funeral of my great uncle. He was a praying man that loved the Lord with all his heart. The minister titled his message, “With Your Eyes Wide Shut.” He asked that question and it made me start to think. How far can I see with my eyes closed?
There is an old song that says, “I can see clearly now the rain has gone.” You can see clearly, but what do you see? Only what is right in front of you. With our eyes closed in prayer, the Lord can show us things to come. Places we need to go, people we need to help. If we are not careful, we get our eyes on the world and lose sight of our calling. We see only the bad and it causes our hearts to grow heavy. We focus on the evil in the world and sometimes it entices us. The grass isn’t always greener on the other side.
I want to close my eyes and say, “Lord show me what you would have me to do.” With my eyes closed, I want to see where He brought me from, and what He brought me through. I want to keep my eyes closed long enough that when I finally open them I say, “Wow!”. What a might God I serve! What a might God I serve!
With my eyes wide open I do see clearly now, but even better with my eyes wide shut.
