Obedience

June 2, 2018

We are told all the time how we are to be obedient to God. I knew that sometimes being obedient to God would be easy and sometimes it would be hard. I knew that sometimes being obedient would make sense while other times it wouldn’t. Back in 2014 when I asked for direction with my life and how he wanted to use me, it was easy to be obedient even though it was not the answer I was expecting.

Then came the night of October 1, 2017 and God told me to find Wyatt Snider. I was obedient and looked around and found Wyatt back in the sound booth, wearing a pink shirt. Then God told me to go and say “Hi”. Why would God want me to go and say “hi”, this is Wyatt, we don’t talk much outside of youth, so why is God saying to go say hi? I wasn’t obedient this time and didn’t go back to the sound booth and talk to Wyatt. It would be five days later when I remembered that I had been told by God to go and say “hi” to Wyatt. That night was the last time I was able to talk to him, because 36 hours later he was in Heaven with God.

God wasn’t sending me back there to say “hi,” but to say “I love you.”

God wasn’t sending me back there to say “hi,” but to say “I’m proud of the young man you have become.”

God wasn’t sending me back there to say “hi,” but to say “that I will always be here for you.”

God wasn’t sending me back there to say “hi,” but to say “you are a part of our family and we will never forget you.”

God wasn’t sending me back there to say “hi,” but to say “good-bye and we will miss you.”

God knew that Wyatt needed to hear and that I needed to say all those things and was using the word “hi” to start the conversation, but I wasn’t being obedient. Afterwards people told me not to blame myself for not being obedient and I haven’t, but I found that I needed to tell others that God’s orders may sound strange at times but there is a reason behind them, you just don’t know what they are at the time. You may be saving someone’s life, you may be bringing someone to God, or you could just be letting someone know that you love them before it is too late.
