Seek Him
And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:13
We often quote Jeremiah 29:11, “I know the plans I have for you says the Lord,” and He does. He has a plan for our life. His plan will not bring about evil but will bring peace. The problems is, we get in the way. We try to direct the happenings of our life and when things get rough we try even harder to set things right. BUT GOD…
Jeremiah 29:11-13 tells us to seek God, to go and pray. Is that our first step? Do we go directly to God for help or do we take a side step to talk to our best friend? Pastor Matt said last night in his sermon that he didn’t need to go talk to anyone else about his problems because the Word of God had the answers not someone else. The Life in the Spirit study guide says this, “when God desires to do great things for His people, He moves His people to great praying.” Are we moved to the point of “great praying”? If not, we must begin to seek Him. If we are, we must be patient for His perfect timing. Prayers are answered in relation to the fullness of God’s purpose AND in the response to faithful, fervent prayers. We must read all the scriptures around Jeremiah 29:11.
For I know the plans that I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:11-13
This prophecy and answered prayer would only come about after 70 years of captivity. Even though Judah was captive during this time God sent word about what they were to do in verses 4-9. God told them to build houses, dwell in their houses, take wives and have families so that God’s people would be increased. God also told them to seek peace and not be deceived by false prophets. Basically, they were going to be in this “season” of captivity for a while. God’s instructions were for them to live life and seek peace. Stay in the Word and keep to His commandments only. This will work for us today if we have the patience to wait for His timing. Seek His perfect will, pray for peace and stay in God’s Word trusting His plan for your life.
