Humility Day 4/6

With all humility and gentleness, with patience, showing tolerance for one another in love. Ephesians 4:2

But He gives a greater grace. Therefore it says, “God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble. James 4:6

We reach a point in life sometimes where we feel like we really have a grip on something or we really understand it. In sports for me, it was understanding that I could always make some aspect better or stronger in my game. Many of the top athletes understand that, and so they put hours and hours working on their craft and perfecting it. What about our relationship and knowledge of Jesus Christ and his Word?

Humility. What a tough word sometimes in our lives. According to the dictionary, humility means: a modest or low view of one’s own importance. Simply saying that other people are more important than ourselves. What an amazing concept that is so quickly going away in this world today, even with Christians.

The Bible calls us to serve one another but we are unable to do this with true love in our heart, if we can’t “see” the good in a person regardless of who they are. We have to make humility a verb in our life and serve. The word says in Philippians 2:3-4 that we should...do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather in humility value others above ourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.

When is the last time we held a door for someone we don't know, or stopped to help someone carry something? We should find and look for opportunities each and every day to serve others. Pray each day that the Lord will allow you to see opportunities during the day where you can serve and pour into someone else's life. Be ready though to act in obedience when your heart pulls you to help and serve and do it humbly.
