Spiritual Meal-Course #2 The Soup

The second course in our 5 course meal plan to maintain our “Spiritual appetite”, is the Soup course. A good soup brings a new layer into the meal. The soup prepares the meal for the hot courses to come. The kitchen may tend to heat up now, as we reflect on a layer of our meal that requires slowing down to examine or “sip” on what we are filling up with daily.

When we looked at why we would have a spiritual loss of appetite; one area addressed, was stop filling up on junk food! Do not starve on a full stomach! Isaiah 55:1-2 states, “Is anyone thirsty? Come and drink even if you have no money! Come, take your choice of wine or milk- it's all free! Why spend your money on food that does not give you strength? Why pay for food that does you no good? Listen to me, and you will eat what is good. You will enjoy the finest food.”

Let's think about two kinds of people invited to this dinner:

  1. The thirsty and broke

  2. The self sufficient with money, that buys bread, but it does not satisfy

Are you starving and hungry or are you full, yet hungry? This meal we are having and are invited to by our Lord, satisfies both!

Some of you may be thirsty, dry, and parched. It feels as if God's anointing has not rained on you for so long. Empty, unfulfilled, and dissatisfied. No money, strength, or motivation. But you are still longing and have a thirst. The Lord says.....You are just the dinner guest I am looking for! Continue to “sip” on your soup to quench and satisfy your hunger.

Some of you may have the money for a meal. You may have strength and may labor hard for it, but what is your result? Frustration and malnourished. You may be chasing, searching, and experimenting with new jobs, cars, boats, houses, the latest fashion, social media sites, drugs, alcohol, unhealthy relationships......anything this world can offer. Soon, the new becomes old, it becomes boring, it does not satisfy anymore. Your options get fewer and fewer. This is the result of continually feeding on food of no nutritional value. We cannot be sustained on this kind of food.

Be grateful for this course...the Soup. The heat caused us to slow down and examine the type of food we are eating on a daily basis. Consider the need for a new diet. The Lord's meal plan is beyond compare!

Next, we will move on to our third course.... the Entree....Making God Your #1 Goal. It is designed as an entrance to the “Main Meal”.

Bon a petite (may you enjoy your meal with a good appetite)
