Spiritual Meal-Course#5: The Dessert
We have reached the last course of our Spiritual Meal to satisfy and maintain our spiritual appetite, the Dessert…...Have your church family for support!
Believers in Jesus Christ are our dinner guest at this Feast. In Acts 2:42, “They (believers) devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.” How do we maintain our spiritual hunger and enjoy this feast together?
We study God’s Word Together – The church family is called to grow spiritually together, spurring one another on. “All scripture is God- breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.” 2 Timothy 3:16
We Honor God Together Through Worship - We are in unity when believers worship God together, whether it’s through music, preaching, giving our tithe and offering, or serving. “Glorify the Lord with me; let us exalt His name together.” Psalm 34:3
We Find Accountability – The church should provide a framework for accountability. Proverbs 27:17 says, “Iron sharpens iron; so man sharpens his friend’s countenance.” Accountability is important in the battle to overcome sin, and the church family is a great place to find someone to encourage you, rebuke you when necessary, and rejoice with you!
We Find Support in a Trial – When we are in need, we will want our brothers and sisters in Christ to hold us up in prayer and help with practical needs like meals, cleaning, and childcare. Galatians 6:2 encourages us to “carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”
We Have Opportunities For Service – Your calling in the church is to contribute, not just to receive. When we are in close fellowship with other believers, we know when they need support and prayer. We can step in a help. Ephesians 6:7 says, “Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people.”
We Make Disciples – There comes a time when we need to feed, not just be fed. We need to evangelize, teach, encourage, and disciple our church family and other believers in Christ. “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” Matthew 28:18-20
When we gather corporately, talk about God, read His Word, and think about who God is and what He can do for us, something happens. We begin to crave closeness with God and His blessings. Have you experienced a time when smelling or seeing food made you hungry? Maybe you were not even thinking about eating, but you walked into the kitchen when someone was fixing a meal, you looked at that delicious food and all of a sudden, you were ready to eat! That can happen spiritually when we go to church. We come in and see the bounty of the Gospel spread before us, and that makes us hungry and thirsty for God in our lives. Make the choice to come to the Feast!
Bon a petite (may you enjoy your food with a good appetite)
