Bugs on the Windshield

“Oh my, look at that windshield. I just cleaned it,” I moaned.

A clean windshield is a rare event in the summertime. Big bugs, little bugs, colored bugs, and plain brown bugs splatter our vehicles while we drive. We scrub and rub to get the windshield clean and then more bugs splatter in just a few more miles of driving. Cleaning is a never-ending task. If we don’t clean the windshield periodically, it will coat over with bug remains and impede our sight for safe driving.

There are other “bugs” that come our way even more destructive than insects. Rudeness, anger, deceit, rejection, and lying from others splatter on us as bugs do on our windshield. To clean these bugs out of our lives, forgiveness is required instead of water and a squeegee pad. Sometimes, this is a daily process.

As words and actions come against us, if we don’t forgive, the remains can turn into bitterness, revenge, and hate. This then blurs our ability of seeing correctly to follow God’s direction, as we travel along in our Christian life.

Help me, Lord, to always forgive others when words and actions splatter me.

“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” Ephesians 4:32 (NIV)
