Breaking Free (Part 2)
In the last two days I have come across the message that my faith in God is going to help me break free of what is holding me back. I listened to a speaker last night who talked about how he couldn’t believe that he was facing cancer and the doctors had only given him a short time to live. He put his faith in God; found a doctor who was working on a cure for his type of cancer, and is now months later is cancer free. He also talked about with everything he had gone through since he was a teenager and the number of times he should have died over the years, at the age of 66 he had given up on finding a wife and ever having kids and grandkids. He was surprised when God brought him a beautiful woman, who had been previously married and had six kids of her own, with the youngest being 17 and still at home. Her older kids had kids of their own, so when he married this woman, be became a dad and a grandfather. He loves it because family had always been important to him. He didn’t let cancer destroy him. He let God in and was set free of his cancer and found the family he always wanted.
I had been pushing off reading a devotional on my Bible app and today I started it. It is also about breaking free from what is holding you back. Isaiah 43:10-13 keeps showing up in this devotional. Isaiah 43:10-13 reads …
“You are My witnesses,” says the LORD,
“And My servant whom I have chosen,
That you may know and believe Me,
And understand that I am He.
Before Me there was no God formed,
Nor shall there be after Me.
I, even I, am the LORD,
And besides Me there is no savior.
I have declared and saved,
I have proclaimed,
And there was no foreign god among you;
Therefore you are My witnesses,”
Says the LORD, “that I am God.
Indeed before the day was, I am He;
And there is no one who can deliver out of My hand;
I work, and who will reverse it?”
Cancer was holding the speaker back, the Egyptians and Babylonians held the Israelites back when they held the Israelites captive, and we all have something holding us back. Our finances, our past, jobs, illnesses, or lack of faith can be holding us back and it is time for us to break free.
A couple months ago I started to clean out the junk I have been carrying around for years and have faced somethings from my past that I didn’t want to face. As I have been cleaning out my soul of everything that has been holding me back, I have found myself feeling freer and lighter. The burden that I had carried unknowingly is now gone. I’m not totally free from my past, but I’m getting there.
Colossians 1:24 says “I now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up in my flesh what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ, for the sake of His body, which is the church”. I want to ask you: What is holding you back? What do you need to be set free from? Are you letting God in to help you?
God is the only one who can help you break free from your bondage.
