Testimony

September 20, 2018

And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.  Revelation 12:11

I have been thinking a lot about our testimony lately.  How do we get a testimony?

When I was 12 my mom and I were in a serious car accident.  I got trapped under the dashboard and the force of the impact caused my arm to break almost at the shoulder.  That was scary was so scary and painful!  I had a cast for months and was limited in what I could do because of where the arm was broken, breathing was painful.  When I would take a breath, it pulled my shoulder up slightly and the wait of the cast pulled the other way.

Years later most people would have no clue that anything ever happened to my arm.  I see the damage though, my shoulder droops slightly on that side.  There are limitations to the movements I can make with it and from time to time I have mild pain.

There is also what no one sees, the callous that formed on the bone itself.  A callous inside my arm at the spot where the bone healed itself.  I know that the bone will never break in the exact same spot again because it is stronger at that point than it was before.

Testimonies are the same way I think.  You go through a time in your life that breaks you; where the pain is so deep and strong you can’t breathe.  You look to the Lord for strength and courage but he battle/situation pulls on your faith.  Your struggle to find healing seems endless and pointless at times.  BUT GOD is working on healing the deepest parts of your wound.

In time, the pain fades and your faith is stronger because of His promises.  You know you won’t break the exact same way again but the reminders stay.  A scar that only you may see and feel but it doesn’t hurt all of the time anymore or even at all.  That scar is your testimony, your reminder of God’s faithfulness.  It is what you can use to help others going through the same situation.

Treasure your scars (visible or not) they are God’s promise that He will never you nor forsake you (Hebrews  13:5).
