Be A Blessing

School has recently started back and the beginning of the school years brings out a lot of hustle and bustle. It was an emotional start this year since Kenlee started Kindergarten. She loves school but it is important to get into a routine. Brandon and Kendra have been busy trying to fit many things into their daily schedule. Of course, in all my great wisdom, I reminded them to stop and count their blessings. They have great jobs, a wonderful family and an extended family that loves and helps them. There is a special old hymn that reminds us to count our blessing and to name them one by one. In saying it out loud and thanking God for each one you can feel the tension start falling away and peace begin to take its place. As I prayed for my children to find peace in a busy time of year, the Lord began to challenge me to move beyond counting my blessings.
I believe He wants us to share our blessings. I read a devotion online that stated counting our blessings without asking God how we should use and share those blessings was greed and selfishness. Those were pretty harsh words. I don’t really see myself as greedy and selfish but then again, I had to ask myself how I was sharing my blessings. 2 Corinthians 2:8-9 tells us that God is able to bless us abundantly and those blessing will be all that we need and above what we can imagine. So…. Why hoard our blessings. Blessings are a reward for faithfulness and without sharing our blessings we are not being faithful. I am thankful for all of my blessings and I want to count them daily. God has blessed us richly but I also want to be found faithful. I want to share my blessings.
“A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed. People curse the one who hoards grain, but they pray God’s blessing on the one who is willing to sell.” Proverbs 11:25-26
Don’t hoard. Count and Share.
