Are You Going to Conform or Be Transformed?

November 18, 2018

“Do not conform yourselves to the standards of this world, but let God transform you inwardly by a complete change of your mind. Then you will be able to know the will of God” (Romans 12:2a GNT).

I have come to understand that we have two choices in life. You’ll either be conformed or transformed.

There’s no middle ground! This is not popular but it is the Truth!

Just ask Daniel.

Daniel faced a choice. Either he could take the king’s food and be conformed to the ways of the Babylonian Empire, or he could refuse to defile his body and stay true to his values! How many times a day, a week, a month, or a year are you asked in some way to compromise, change, or water down your values?

Daniel stayed strong. He never forgot who he was. He said, “You can change my address. You can change my clothing. You can change my name. But you’re not going to change my heart. I won’t be conformed to the ways of this society.” Change is not always the answer!

Too many of us choose differently than Daniel did. Instead of sticking to our values, we live like everyone else. We conform. I believe this is the number one problem in society but also the church today. We are too willing to conform and change. We believe change is so necessary and good that we spend way too much time focusing on what we don't have instead of what we do.

But the Bible reminds us, “Do not conform yourselves to the standards of this world, but let God transform you inwardly by a complete change of your mind. Then you will be able to know the will of God” (Romans 12:2a GNT). We as believers can seek change so desperately, that we allow the enemy to promote our change instead of the Holy Spirit living in us.

I don't know about you but I have wasted a lot of time and energy trying to figure out what God wants me to do with my life and He has just recently showed me that I have not figured it out because I have been too interested in conforming to the world, instead of allowing him to transform me.  I have been more interested in being like everyone else than in being the unique person that God made me to be. Here is encouragement, as long as, we are worried about conforming to the latest greatest things in the world and in the church world, you won’t worry about God transforming you. And in that case, you won’t know the will of God and the enemy will get a foot hold in your life for destruction and not restoration or growth.

But if you make Daniel’s choice and choose God’s best for your life, he’ll transform you. Then you’ll know the will of God.

My challenge for us Today, is to not worry about what you don't have in your walk with Christ and focus on what you do have. CHOOSE today to no longer conform but allow God to transform you.
