Sharing the Gospel

Always use “words” to share the gospel! Yes, your actions (your fruit) is part of sharing the gospel and is a reflection of the gospel in your life, but to truly share the gospel with someone, it takes words. It is a very specific message of good news and how we are saved.

Start out in Romans 3:23, it says, For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. So, before anything else, we need to recognize that we are sinners and we will never be perfect. Your sin may look different than mine, but we are all in need of a savior. Until we admit that, we have no need for the gospel.

Then, let’s go to Romans 6:23, For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Once we have admitted our sin, we need to recognize that we deserve death and hell because of it.

This is where it starts to become the good news! Go to Romans 5:8, But God demonstrates his own love for us: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Not after we have got our whole life together and stopped sinning did He die for us, it was before. It was while we were still sinners, God sent His one and only son who lived a perfect life and died a death that His blood would cover our sin. It is so important to know that we did not earn his death on the cross, that he did it out of his grace while we were still sinners.

So, in Romans 10:9, as a result of knowing that Jesus died on the cross, it says, That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord”, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. The simplicity and straight forwardness of the gospel is that if I know what Jesus died on the cross, I believe that He is truly Lord, confess it with my mouth, believe it in my heart, then I am truly saved and I get to have a relationship with the Lord out of that!

Next, Romans 8:1 says, Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Once we do have that relationship with the Lord and we have confessed and believe in Him, there is no condemnation. Are we perfect after confessing? Absolutely not. There will still be sin in your life, but know there will be no condemnation and that sin won't lead to death, but it should lead to repentance. Then, ultimately, through God's grace, giving you eternal life in heaven with Him.

Finally, go to Ephesians 2:8-9, it says, For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith, not by works, so that no one can boast. It was totally because God chose to open our eyes to the message of His gospel and that it is His grace that has saved us!

We can share the gospel in any conversation, at any point. The more familiar we are with the gospel and what God has done through His son on the cross, the more we want to point our conversations back to that and find opportunities to share the good news!
