Humility is a Choice!

When we’re successful, it’s much easier to fall hard than it is to maintain our success. We tend to get proud and forget about God, and success crumbles when we do that.

If you’ve found yourself in that situation, the first step to take is absolutely critical.

The Bible says, “Consider how far you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place.” (Revelation 2:5).

If we’re getting proud, we must repent. That means we change our mind. We go from thinking one way about our life to thinking another way.

Why repent? Humility is a choice. We’re never told in Scripture to pray for God to make us humble. It’s something we choose for ourselves.

The Bible says, “So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor” (1 Peter 5:6).

Humility is a choice.

Here’s the difference between pride and humility. Pride is when we accept the credit for things that God and other people did through us and for us. Humility doesn’t mean thinking of ourselves less. It means thinking of others and God more.

The Bible says, “For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted” (Matthew 23:12).

My Challenge for us today is to realize if we have experienced some success and are beginning to get prideful, then repent…. today! We must change our perspective about who we are and where our success comes from.
