A New Creation
Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; old things passed away; behold new things have come. 2 Corinthians 5:17
When you accept Christ as your Savior, you die with Christ. We say this often in church but what does it really mean? Basically, when you die with Christ, you no longer live for yourself. You live for Christ. The “death” we are referring to is the old sin nature. When we give our lives to Christ, the old sin nature is nailed to the Cross with Christ. It is buried with Him too.
Just as Christ was raised from the dead, we are raised to live in “newness” of life. That “new” person we are becoming is the “new creation”. Our lives begin to change. The closer we get to Christ through Bible Study and Prayer, the more changes we will see. There is no longer a of love of sin. We begin to love being at church, sharing God’s Word with others and longing for Worship. Our former habits and passions shift. Our purpose, feelings and desires are different. We see the world differently. There is beauty where once we saw darkness. There is praise where we once embraced hate.
No one reaches a perfect sinless life, but the Christian (new creation) is being sanctified (or made holy) day by day. Each day they sin less, hating it more each time they fail. Sin is no longer contemplated but done almost unwillingly and less frequent.
It is a wonderful thing to be a “new creation”. Sin no longer has power over us and we can choose to live in Christ. This new life is lived by God’s power only and for His glory.
What is changing in your life? Make a list and Praise God for the changes!
