An Answer to Prayer

“Since we are going to Montana for vacation next summer, how about I use the wool material I have to make comforters for the Indian Reservation?” I asked my husband, Larry.

“Sure, that’ll work.”

I contacted our friends, Lita and Craig, who had moved to live on the Crow Reservation. They have Bible studies in their home for the Indian children while also supplying meals and playing games with them.

“Yes, Helen, comforters would be wonderful. Some of the families do not have enough heat in the wintertime,” Lita replied.

My step-mother, Isabelle, heard about the project and donated money for flannel to back the comforters. She also gave fabric with pre-printed animals to sew and stuff for toys. As I stuffed the animals with fiber-fill, I visualized an Indian child hugging and playing with them.

The wool material was soon washed and sorted for color coordination. I cut a multitude of pieces and then started sewing. Over six months, twelve comforters were finished. Plus, I had time to knit some scarfs.

Ladies in a retirement community agreed to knit or crochet hats for the native children. I was surprised to receive almost one hundred colorful hats and two baby blankets.

When we delivered the comforters and other items, Lita said, “We’ve been praying for things to give to the children. Thank you. There will be plenty to share with another reservation in South Dakota, too.”

God guides us to fulfill the answer for others’ prayers.

“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us–whatever we ask–we know that we have what we asked of him.” 1 John 5:14-15, NIV
