Are You Singing?

I was getting ready for work one morning a few days ago just as the sun was rising. I was lost in my morning routine. Basically, little thought just rote movement. I heard a couple of birds outside my window singing. Yes, singing. I think it was praise. The morning was bright and the day was the Lord’s. Why wasn’t I singing? I really wasn’t burdened or worried. I was just lost in the routine of the day. Jesus told the religious leaders on Palm Sunday that if he told the crowd to stop praising, the very rocks would cry out (Luke 19:40). If rocks would praise him, why not birds?

Their enthusiasm was catching. I began to sing through my morning routine! What a difference it made in my attitude toward the day. I was inviting God’s presence with my singing. Psalm 100:2 says, “Come before his presence with singing!”

Singing brings joy. We often sing when we are joyful, but singing when are not will bring the joy we need. Singing brings praise to God and in return brings joy to a troubled spirit or even a complacent one. Ephesians 5:15-20 tells us to live wisely because the days are evil. It says to not be foolish but filled with the Spirit. Here is how: “Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God.”

Change the course of your day or adjust your attitude, SING!

“Sing joyfully to the Lord, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise him.” Psalm 33:1
