Use Your Sword

Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Ephesians 6:11,12,17

As you know, the sword is not a piece of armor that we put on and wear. It is a weapon. Like all weapons, the danger comes when you pick it up to actively use it. A knife or gun laying on a shelf can’t harm anyone by itself. It takes someone to pick it up for it to be useful to them. My husband likes to hunt and he spends countless hours “watching” deer and turkey during the year. He has many guns but as long as his guns are put away the deer are safe. They roam our land eating grass and drinking from our pond. It is only during “season” that they would not be safe on our property because it is during this time that he carries his gun, loaded and ready to use.

God’s Word (The Bible) is described as a sword. A weapon to use in spiritual battle. Ephesians tells us that our struggles are against spiritual wickedness and rulers of the darkness (Satan and his legions). We are in a spiritual battle whether we want to be or not. Satan has seen that. His only desire is to kill, steal and destroy. So, pick up the one weapon that you can use against him. Run to the battle! You are armed and dangerous! Fight for your joy, fight for peace and fight for your family. Hide God’s Word in your heart and keep your “sword” ready for battle.

For the word of God is powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit and of the joints ad marrow and is a discerner of the thoughts ad intents of the heart. Hebrews 4:2
