The Power of Words

A truth I’ve come into understanding with, is we empower whatever we come into agreement with. There’s power in agreement, there’s power in unity. (Genesis 11:1.6)

1 Corinthians 1:10 Now I urge you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all say the same thing, that there be no divisions among you and that you be united with the same understanding and the same conviction.

Words carry substance, they are substantive in nature. James 3, the chapter talks about the power of the tongue, it can be a deadly force and also has the power to determine the direction of your life. It’s like the bit in a horse’s mouth and the rudder on a ship and determines a direction. It has the power of blessing and to having enough power to fulfill the mission it was sent to do. There’s power in the spoken word.

Since the devil has been stripped bare by the blood of Jesus, he has no authority over you. His only recourse is deception. The words of hell (negative words spoken) will degrade your worth, your value, your destiny, your future and your significance. The words of heaven will also speak into your worth, your value, your destiny, your future and your significance. Words of love and encouraging that builds confidence in you and others. However, when we receive words of hell, then we empower those words and the assignment that was on those words, we simply allow those words to be fulfilled in our life.

Whatever we come into agreement with, that’s what we empower. We can speak words of healing or words that wound; we can edify and build up or discourage and tear down. Words are containers of power and they carry either positive or negative power. The decision is up to us. Read Prov.18:21.

Ephesians 4:29 Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, that it may give grace to those who hear.

I pray the words of your mouth, your meditations-thoughts, and the condition of your heart be always pure and pleasing, acceptable before Your eyes, our only Redeemer, your Protector-God. (Psalm 19:14 paraphrased).
