Salt and Light

Matthew 5:13-16

“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

We are called to be the salt of the earth and Jesus is clear what happens if we lose our saltiness. He says that saltiness is no longer good and should be thrown out. In the same passage, Jesus explains that we are to be the light of the world and not be hidden. The light should be put on a stand and as Christians, we should let our light shine so that our Heavenly Father gets the glory, not us. I encourage you to reflect daily on your actions and words, are they reflecting Christ or are they altering your testimony? We are called to win people to Jesus so be the light in this dark world. Be the encouragement to those who are hard to reach and love.

Reflection:

Do you have anything in your life causing you to lose your saltiness or your light?

What do you do daily to increase your light?
