Push Back

Today I would like to share something that I was able to teach my son but it is a valuable lesson in life. Our summer nights are more and more being spent on the football field and watching Israel play mighty mites. This for me is so enjoyable because I get to see young kids have fun but also continue their way to becoming men. You might say they are just boys but life lessons learned now will continue to drive them and form them as they discover just who they are.

Izzy loves to play running back and outside linebacker, and he knows those positions. But the coach wanted to move them around so they get to see all the positions. Izzy found himself on the front line as a lineman and those are normally larger boys who are not really built for speed but for power. And he was lined up across from a very large boy who was pushing him around and I could see Izzy really wasn’t enjoying it. So on the next water break I was able to give him something that changed the situation. I told him that the boy was pushing him around because he was intimidated by the other boy’s size. So I told him next snap I wanted him to drive with his legs and push with everything he had and keep his legs moving. So the next snap he did that very thing and drove that large intimidating boy back past the quarter back. He looked over at me after that with a big smile. From that point on Izzy who was smaller owned the line and pushed the other boy backwards every snap.

So often we look at a situation where we too are intimidated. The enemy has his bluff in on us. Well I have some news for you, when you wake up you hit it with everything you have. Keep your faith moving forward and when it pushes you back you have the next snap,” The next Day” to get your feet planted. Don’t let size get to you. You own your field don’t let the enemy come in and push you around.

“You are my King, O God; Command victories for Jacob. Through You we will push back our adversaries; Through Your name we will trample down those who rise up against us.”

Psalms 44:4-5 NASB

“I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.”

Philippians 4:13 NASB
