Butterflies Part 1

November 6, 2019

It’s God’s victory that defines our future.

Most know my sweet daughter Raelynn. She inspired me to write this. On 5th Sunday fellowship she says. “ Mother I’m interested in baptism “. I was excited and with her love of butterflies I began to explain. Of course in terms she would understand.

2Corinthians 5:17

Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away, behold the new has come.

One of nature’s most fascinating transformations is the process that a caterpillar under goes to become a beautiful butterfly. Everything begins with a little larva, that then becomes a hungry caterpillar. Did you know? Caterpillars shed their exoskeletons four times while eating and growing. Then one day the caterpillar just stops eating, hangs upside down and sheds for the last time. As the caterpillar forms a temporary home for itself. Within its protective casing called a chrysalis. Seen from the outside this home may appear as a place of death without movement, without noise. But NOT without life. Days pass, then all of sudden life appears. Bursting from within something that seemed so dead. An amazing creature with a pair of the most magnificent wings split the sky and contribute to the beauty of life and creation. But did you know that if you help the butterfly by opening the chrysalis it dies. It’s the process of struggling to get out and leave the chrysalis that allows the beautiful creatures wings to become sturdy and strong so that it can face the world. Along with all the natural elements like wind, rain and anything  else it may encounter through its life.

“This key passage from the chrysalis is unavoidable and essential to the creatures preparation.” Our lives are just like the caterpillar to a butterfly. Our chrysalis is God’s heart and everything he is.

Beautiful as the caterpillar to butterfly is, it is a beautiful thing that takes place when Christ comes into our hearts. As the caterpillar eats the leaves in its world just as we feed on the ideas of the world around us. In the chrysalis, the caterpillar appears lifeless. Just as Jesus’ lifeless body was taken down off the cross and placed in a tomb. A believer’s chrysalis stage is when we die to sin.

Be a caterpillar emerge from your chrysalis, be transformed into a completely new creature. When we recognize our sin, confess it, receive God’s forgiveness, and accept Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord we are transformed into new life in Him.
