When we turned on the sprinklers to water our grass in Montana, the robins flocked to our yard to stand and watch for worms. Suddenly, one would grab the end of a worm and pull and pull until the worm popped out of the ground. I never saw a robin let go of the worm. He just braced his feet and hung on. His perseverance rewarded him with a tasty snack.
There may be an area in our lives where we need to use the perseverance and patience of a robin. Maybe an in-law who is difficult to love, a child who needs consistent discipline, holding a teen-ager accountable for her actions, or continuing with a Bible study. If so, we brace our feet, hold on, and continue doing the right action for the current situation. Eventually, perseverance is rewarded.
Lord, help me remain steady and firm in following through with the right action.
“Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.” 1 Corinthians 15:58
