Exchange Systems

December 20, 2019

The Christmas story has been told through the centuries and never gets old.  Our son, Nate, was a December baby and his first time in church was the Sunday before Christmas.  Listening to the scriptures shared in Matthew and Luke about the arrival of Jesus, emotions of awe, thanksgiving and hope moved me in deeper understanding of what was done for me and the whole world.  In fulfillment of the prophecy, Isaiah 9:6 says, “For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government shall be upon His shoulder.  And His name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”  Yes, Jesus had arrived without fanfare of family, community or country, but the Heavenly host was broadcasting loud and clear the Redeemer had come to planet earth!

It has been interesting to me to observe the exchange system shown in scripture between Mary and Jesus.  Let’s look at a few:

Mary and Jesus were both chosen for the mission to be accomplished, as was Joseph.

Mary carried Jesus and then gave Him birth.  Jesus, through redemption (the rebirthing process), carried Mary to eternal life.

Mary gave Jesus milk.  Jesus became the living bread for Mary.

Mary was diligent in raising Jesus.  Jesus honored and cared for His mother, even while on the cross.

Mary was near Jesus all through His natural life on earth, beginning to end.  Jesus has promised His faithfulness to Mary and all that become the children of God for this life and throughout all eternity.

Mary prompting Jesus to start His first miracle, which He did.  Jesus instructed Mary (and 500 more) to go to the Upper Room, which she did and received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit.

All through Mary’s life you see her “pondering” the words spoken by the angel of the Lord, the shepherds, Simeon, Anna, Wisemen, Herod and Old Testament scriptures.   Jesus fulfilled those words.

What would happen, if like Mary, we looked with expectancy for the promises God has given us to be fulfilled? Taking Mary’s example, the exchange system would be totally beyond our investment and comprehension.  Now that is something to ponder!
