God Uses a Fast for Repentance
You will never succeed in life if you try to hide your sins. Confess them and give them up; then God will show mercy to you. Proverbs 28:13
Repentance is the central them in the life of a Christian and it is the very foundation of fasting and prayer. As you begin to fast, God will open your eyes to areas of your life that require repentance. Ask God to bring these things to your awareness and when He does, confess them and seek forgiveness. Never underestimate the spiritual opposition that you will face when making this request. Satan doesn’t want you to have a “right” relationship with God. He prefers that your unconfessed sin continues to hinder your prayers. But a repentant heart is a peaceful heart.
It is hard to describe that feeling when you are the closest to God that you have ever been. There is a spring in your step, a smile on your face and peace in your heart. We all desire it which makes it so confusing why we allow ourselves to be drawn away. But we do. If we want to get back to that close relationship, we must take the first step. He is there waiting to draw us close again. Make restitution as the Holy Spirit leads you. Seek forgiveness not only from God but from anyone you may have offended. Likewise, forgive anyone who has hurt you.
Make forgiveness a priority in your fasting. Pray specifically and humble yourself before the Lord. He will direct your path.
And My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14
