Friends

Valentine’s Day. The day to show our friends and loved ones just how much we love them. This day is filled with messages of love to family and friends. Our grandchildren are making valentines for everyone in their class at school and church. They have lots of friends. It seems at a young age just about everyone we meet is our friend. Children make friends fast. They can meet for the first time and minutes later be playing like they have known each other forever. I remember taking Kenlee to the park when she was 5 years old. There were other kids there playing. It didn’t take her long to find a “new friend”. She was always sad when we left and wanted to know if she could go back “tomorrow” to play with her new friend.

True friendship goes beyond spending a little bit of time playing together. True friendship stands the test of time. True friendship provides love, trust, respect and loyalty. The Bible tells us in John 15:13, Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends. Jesus set the ultimate example of friendship when he died on the cross for our sins.

I love singing the song, I am a friend of God. He calls me friend. Jesus says in John 15:15, No longer do I call you slaves for the slave does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends for all things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you. He calls us friend. Why? Because He loves and trusts us enough to share what is happening in Heaven. God’s Word is the heart of God shared directly to us. Don’t squander the friendship. Read His Word.

Who am I that You are mindful of me, That You hear me when I call.

Is it true that You are thinking of me? How You love me it’s amazing.

I am a friend of God. He calls me friend.

God Almighty, Lord of Glory, You have called me friend.
