Rummage Sale Bargains

Larry and I are faithful regulars at rummage sales. We have found numerous items at bargain prices, including clothing, tools, furniture, dishes, and craft supplies. One of my favorite rummage sale purchases is a ladies western-style shirt. Gray and black Indian feathers are painted on one shoulder and down the front of the green shirt. The feathers are outlined in sparkly paint. The color of this attractive shirt goes well with my hair and skin coloring; therefore, I receive many compliments when I wear the shirt.

“What a beautiful shirt. It is so unusual. Where did you find it?” a lady asked.

“At a rummage sale.”

“NO!”

I assured her it was the truth.

Her unbelief that I had found such a treasure at a rummage sale reminds me of times when I have heard Christians react the same way about an attribute of God. Some have trouble grasping that God loves them, no matter what mistakes they have made. Others don’t realize how valuable they are to God, because they have been rejected by parents. Some people can’t accept that He is a forgiving God, knowing the terrible things they have done in the past. Some do not believe that God will never leave them.

It’s sad that some people don’t believe the truth about God, but their unbelief about His love, goodness, and forgiveness doesn’t change the facts.

Studying the scriptures helps us grasp the truth about the wonderful attributes of God.

“For great is his love toward us, and the faithfulness of the LORD endures forever. Praise the LORD.” Psalm 117:2 (NIV)
