Resist the Devil

I love going back over notes from previous sermons. I am always amazed at God’s perfect timing when I read over my notes. Recently I ran across my notes from Pastor Sam’s sermon on delayed obedience equals disobedience. Many times the lie of the enemy causes delayed obedience, and we must be able to distinguish between the lie and the Truth. How do we, as believers, protect ourselves from the lies of the enemy?

1 Peter 5:8-9, Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.

First, we must be alert and focused on the Truth because the enemy wants to devour us in weakness. In verse 9, it is clear that resisting the enemy takes standing firm in our faith. I do not know about you, but I cannot stand firm in my faith by just attending church on Sunday morning. I must make it a lifestyle change and pursue The Lord daily and defend myself with the armor. I do not want to be disobedient because I fell to the enemy’s lies. I encourage you to stand firm and pursue The Lord daily.
