How is Your Aim?
That is a rather interesting question, but it is one I think about a lot as a coach. However, we don’t always step back and look at it as Christians. Faith aimed at the wrong target is worthless. As a coach of a High School sport, it would be silly of me to teach my players to take aim at the wrong target or to not really take aim at all and just hope and wish for the best result. I would not make a very good coach and have a rather short career.
As we peel back the layers here and look at what this means as a Christian in our game of life we see that our faith being centered around personal gain is not fulfilling. But too many times we fall into that trap. Are we doing this to be accepted, for social media status, it’s just the “Right” thing to do, or dowe want to just feel good? Those are all reasons that would show us our aim is off-target with our faith and it is pretty safe to say at a time or two or even now that is where a lot of us have been or where we are now.
Isaiah 58: 9-11 Then you will call, and the Lord will answer;
You will cry, and He will say, ‘Here I am.’
If you remove the yoke from your midst,
The pointing of the finger and speaking wickedness,
And if you give yourself to the hungry
And satisfy the desire of the afflicted,
Then your light will rise in darkness
And your gloom will become like midday.
“And the Lord will continually guide you,
And satisfy your desire in scorched places,
And give strength to your bones;
And you will be like a watered garden,
And like a spring of water whose waters do not fail.
It’s pretty clear that God wants us to be a light to this world and not fall into the things of the world. He wants us to help those who need it. He wants us to brighten up the places of darkness and focus in on those areas of our life with specific prayer. We can’t be passive once we are a child of God, we have the authority to run after the devil and those things in our life and attack them with the power and authority of our Savior.
Be intentional with your faith, don’t sit back and just hope and wait. Get specific with your prayers and be bold with your life so that our focus and aim of our faith can be right on!
