What Are You Tied To?

Ecclesiastes 4:12...A cord of three is not easily broken

A lot of us have heard this before that a rope is not easily broken, and as we look at it, we see that a real rope is twisted or braided together to strengthen itself. When we examine some functions of a rope, we note that it holds things together, it pulls things in all directions, and it can even bound things up. So today I want to ask you, what are you tied to? Let’s examine this from two ends since there are two ends to every rope. The first end has you at the end of it, and that causes you to affect other people. The people you are tied to in life. The Bible has some instructions for us about who we are tied to in life.

1 Thessalonians 5:11 Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.

How are you affecting those people in your life that you are tied to? Are we building people up as a Christian and showing them a the true love of Christ every day and in every situation? Sometimes that is hard, but what testimony do we have if we tear people down all the time?

Now on the other end of the rope, we may have a lot of other people, jobs, social media, posts, shows, music, friends, family...the list goes on and on. If everything was stripped away in life and all we could see was the ropes of the things you are attached to, what then is it you are tied to? Are they making you a better person? Are they strengthening you as a Christian? Are they building up your relationship with Christ? There are a lot of questions to ask when we look at what we are connected to in life. The hard part is after we ask those questions, cutting the rope so we are not connected to it anymore. It may hurt, it may take time, we may even lose things over it, but we can’t have ropes in our lives connecting us to things that are jeopardizing our relationship and status with Jesus Christ.

1 Corinthians 15:33 Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals.”

Take a moment today and examining both ends of your ropes in life of what you are connected to so that we may live in the fullness of the Christ has for us!
