Interruptions are Welcome

“I have several pages to read, but please stop me at any time. I welcome interruptions,” Blanche told the critique group. She knew the group members helped her as she wrote and rewrote the mystery book. They had helpful input, unique ideas, caught mistakes, expressed any misunderstanding, and encouraged her when she allowed them to read or hear her read the book as it progressed.

It is easier for a writer to correct any mistakes or misunderstandings before continuing for several chapters. If the mistake is not noticed for many scenes, it takes much longer to correct as the mistake is woven into the story.

Blanche wanted her story accurate without goofs so the readers could enjoy the book without questioning what the author is talking about.

I also want interruptions — from God. When I am doing something wrong or speaking with error, I want God to stop me before I do something stupid or hurt another person with my words or actions.

I’ve not always wanted God to interrupt and show me my mistakes; I just merrily went on my way either oblivious to the damage or feeling justified. I’ve learned though that it’s best if I find out immediately the error of my ways before I make the situation worse. It’s easier to correct before I compound it with more misinformation.

By immediately repenting, apologizing or doing whatever is needed for the situation I honor God and others.

Correction from God is for my benefit.
