Understanding Isn't Necessary

“Do you understand this, Helen?” Matt asked. He had showed me how to enter data a different way on the college software computer program and then explained why it needed to be done that way.

“No, I don’t understand why, but that’s all right, I’ll do it the way you told me,” I answered.

I did understand how he wanted it done, but not why the computer program worked that way. By entering the data as he told me, the results was what the college needed. My job was to enter the data so it is usable to the various college staff, I don’t have to understand the “why.”

The same principle works with my relationship with God. He gives me instruction in the Bible and through listening to the Holy Spirit. All I need do is follow what He directs. I don’t have to understand why He tells me to say or do something.

I do understand that God’s plan for my life is good, so I know all His directives work towards that end. I just need to do them and trust in God’s goodness for my life.

Following God’s directives is best.

“For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
