Spiritual War - Strongholds

July 18, 2020

2 Corinthians 10:3-5. For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh.  For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.

The term, “stronghold” may not be a part of your everyday vocabulary but it would be helpful to understand this concept as a person is brought out of bondage into freedom. A stronghold can be defined as an ingrained repetitive thinking process your mind regularly travels down. What you think determines how you see yourself, how you see others, and how you see your world. Right or wrong, what your mind and your thoughts gravitate to determine how you live and who you will become.

We can define a stronghold as a dominating thought pattern that rules how you think, how you respond, and determines your behaviors. Strongholds can be either godly or ungodly. Your thought patterns can either bring you into life or bring you into ruin.

Usually strongholds are viewed as negative and not necessarily Godly. It is the lens in which we view everything. A good example of strongholds is to imaging writing the big lie we believe about ourselves on a brick and then we surrounded someone with the bricks realizing that it casts certain shadows, inhibits your ability to see or react properly all because it’s built a high wall.

By taking every thought captive we can breakdown the wall of strongholds in our life to attain Christlikeness. It’s a process achieved by finding the truth of our identity found in the Word of God – the Bible!
