Throughout scripture, the word rest appears a lot. It is something God obviously wants us to have as part of our lives. But how exactly do we rest? Do we just take a nap, or lay around and do nothing for a while, or maybe take a long vacation. God simply wants us to quit worrying about so many different things in our lives that we really can’t control. The first thing we can do is rest in his providence. We must trust and know that he is sovereign and knows and controls every aspect of our lives.
Luke 12:7 Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.
If he loves us enough to know how many hairs we have on our head can we not trust him with our daily cares? What is it in your life that you are not fully trusting and resting in the Lord? He says several times He will give us rest, so as your life gets busy and things begin to feel heavy or out of your control, remember to take a step back and rest. Find time to spend in the Word or to be alone and pray. In that time, we will find pure rest more peaceful and restful than any nap or vacation could ever give us.
