“I think it is right to refresh your memory as long as I live in the tent of this body, because I know that I will soon put it aside, as our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me. And I will make every effort to see that after my departure you will always be able to remember these things.” 2 Peter 13-15
Simon Peter who describes himself as a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, pinned the above words. This season in Peter’s life was different than when Jesus first called him to be one of His disciples. Peter had an urgency to share the Good News with applications of how to live a Godly life.
Although Peter referred to his imminent death, this is not what he wants his audience to remember. Rather, Peter wants those he ministered to and the generations to come, to remember the truths that were taught and recorded and that Jesus is real! Peter reminds us that he was an eyewitness “of his majesty”. Not only that, but Peter heard God say, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased” when they were on the sacred mountain. This experience forever impacted Peter.
Like Apostle Peter, our lives are in a constant state of change and growth because of our relationship with Jesus. The more Peter knew Jesus the more he wanted to be like him. Following the same pattern of Peter, we to can pass truths and applications that others will always be able to remembers as we share the reality of our risen Lord.
