At The Mention of His Name

“Therefore, God has highly exalted Him and has freely bestowed on Him the name that is above every name, that at the mention of the name of Jesus every knee shall bow, of those in heaven, those on earth and those under the earth and that every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the Glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2:9-11

I grew up in a singing family. One Sunday night, we had sung at a small country church. During the service a terrible snow/ice storm had started. The storm still raged as we started to drive home. We were on a two-lane road and suddenly our vehicle slid over into the opposite lane. I remember my dad struggling to move our car back into our lane and the vehicle simply would not gain traction to move in any direction.

As we sat stuck in the wrong lane, we saw headlights in the distance, that would soon come over the hill and meet us head on. My dad began to struggle harder to get our car out of the way of the oncoming car. Suddenly, the inside of our car was filled with the voice of our mother urgently calling the name of JESUS! It seemed, not of our own accord, that my brother, sister and I also began to repeat the name, JESUS.

As the oncoming car crested the hill and we saw the headlights headed toward us, our car just “gently” moved back into the proper lane. I will never forget that night because I saw first-hand what the power of the name of JESUS could do.

I had written in an old journal of mine and I love how our God never changes. What I had written is still as true today as it was when I first wrote it down. This is what I wrote:

When Jesus went back to heaven, He left us with the power of His name. He told us to use it! This means we operate on His behalf. Through the use of His name, the devil himself is subject to us. There is power and authority in Jesus name! All problems – physical, material, psychological and spiritual must yield at the name of Jesus.

The next time you find yourself lost, hopeless, let down, unsure, scared, upset or at your wits end – just say His name, Jesus! You will be amazed at what His name can do.

Gloria Gaither said it best when she wrote the words,

JESUS, JESUS, JESUS, THERE’S JUST SOMETHING ABOUT THAT NAME!
